Community Action

Across all our initiatives, UWC Atlantic students contribute many hours to meaningful, reciprocal community partnerships. Projects are sustained, skills-based and embedded in students’ daily boarding lives, delivering tangible benefits in literacy, wellbeing, environmental restoration, social inclusion, intercultural understanding and community resilience. Here are just some of our exemplary community projects:

Cafe concert for the community at UWC Atlantic

Music Therapy, Choir & A Cappella Community Outreach

Students regularly visit elderly care homes to sing, befriend residents and support cognitive and emotional wellbeing. In addition, choirs and ensembles host frequent community concerts on campus, creating inclusive cultural spaces that are well-attended by local residents.

Atlantic Pacific (Ocean Safety, Plastics & Boatbuilding Partnership)

32 students commit weekly to working with Atlantic Pacific, an NGO based on our campus, supporting ocean safety training, coastal rescue preparedness, plastics upcycling, and boatbuilding. Students contribute significant physical labour in challenging coastal conditions while developing technical skills and environmental responsibility, supporting both local maritime safety and global ocean stewardship.

Intergenerational Permaculture & Community Gardening Partnerships

Students work weekly with Wick Sustainability Council and CF61 Community Gardening Centre, supporting community forests, sound gardens, and sustainable food growing projects. This intergenerational initiative promotes wellbeing, knowledge exchange, and environmental stewardship, while students learn directly from local experts and older community members.

Community Sport & Wellbeing (Football, Rugby & Coaching Outreach)

Students provide free weekly football coaching for local primary school children, having completed formal coach training and working under staff supervision. Our Atlantic College Football Club competes in the Vale Football League, while students also play rugby, volleyball, badminton and netball with local clubs, strengthening community links and promoting inclusive sport.
