Dr Chi-Ming Chow
From beneficiary to benefactor
When Dr. Chi-Ming Chow (AC ’84) looks back at his time at UWC Atlantic, one memory in Bradenstoke Hall stands out clearly. During a visit to the college, King Charles III, the then Prince of Wales, encouraged students to strive for leadership, reminding them that positions of influence exist to create greater opportunities to help others.
That core value of service has guided Dr. Chow throughout his distinguished career, from his role as a leading cardiologist at St. Michael’s Hospital and Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, to his appointment as President of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS). Yet for Chi-Ming, professional success has always been paired with a deep commitment to giving back to the community that shaped him.

"Now, more than ever, we need to educate young people to embrace peace, sustainability and humane leadership,. As an alumnus of UWC Atlantic, I am proud to support the Systems Transformation Pathway. I believe the work UWC Atlantic is doing today will help shape a new generation of thoughtful leaders across many fields."
As both an alumnus and a parent of two Atlantic College graduates, Dr. Chow’s ties to UWC Atlantic run deep. His belief in the transformative power of a UWC education led him to become a founding benefactor of the college’s pioneering Systems Transformation Pathway—an innovative educational program designed to equip students with the tools to tackle complex global issues.
Dr. Chow’s generous philanthropy ensures that today’s students receive the same spark of inspiration he experienced on the Bradenstoke benches four decades ago. By supporting forward-thinking education at UWC Atlantic, he is helping train the next wave of purpose-driven changemakers ready to address the world’s most pressing challenges.
