St Donat's Castle
St Donat’s Castle, a 900-year-old treasure, is the beating heart of UWC Atlantic - a symbol of history, inspiration, and global connection. As its custodians, we are committed to preserving this extraordinary landmark for future generations of students and the wider community.
But time has taken its toll. Parts of the castle are in urgent need of repair, with water damage making some spaces unusable. Maintaining a building of this magnitude is a monumental task - 42 roofs require eventual replacement and we are prioritising the most critical.
Thanks to the extraordinary support of our alumni and trusts and foundations, most notably the Historic Houses Foundation and the Aase og Hans Torp Trust, the restoration of St Donat’s Castle continues to move forward. The Portcullis, Old Sick Bay and former Brew House roofs are now fully replaced and watertight.
Our next project is the renovation of the Portcullis interior and exterior, with the aim of turning it into a multi-purpose room, exhibition space and visitor centre.
